The Indigo Collection

For centuries, the Australian opal has captivated collectors, jewellers and storytellers alike. Formed over millions of years beneath the Australian landscape, each stone is an unrepeatable expression of nature. No two are ever the same.

Traditionally, opals have been shaped into smooth cabochons, their curved surfaces revealing flashes of colour that have become synonymous with the gemstone itself.

At UbyKate, we saw another possibility.

The Indigo Collection marks the first time our signature Tri-Cut has been introduced to Australian opal, revealing a perspective rarely seen.

Β

A Different Kind of Australian Opal

Each gemstone begins its journey in Grawin, a remote opal field in north-west New South Wales.

Grawin is known for producing opals of remarkable depth. Rather than brilliant flashes alone, these stones reveal rich indigo, violet and midnight-blue tones that shift quietly beneath the surface. Their beauty is understated, unfolding gradually as the light changes.

It is this quiet complexity that drew us to them.

Each opal is individually selected for its natural character before being transformed into something entirely new.

Beyond Tradition

For generations, opals have been polished into rounded cabochons. The practice honours the gemstone's delicate nature while allowing its colour to emerge across a smooth surface.

We chose another path.

Drawing on years of developing our proprietary Tri-Cut, each Indigo Opal is precision faceted into a silhouette reserved exclusively for UbyKate.

Faceting a natural opal is exceptionally uncommon. It demands both technical precision and a profound respect for the material itself.

The result is transformative.

Light no longer simply passes across the surface. It moves through the stone, revealing unexpected layers of colour, depth and dimension. Every facet offers a different expression and every movement reveals another.

Not a new gemstone, but a new way of seeing one.

The Meaning of Opal

Throughout history, opal has been regarded as a stone of imagination, intuition and transformation.

It has long been associated with creativity, individuality and emotional connection, admired not only for its beauty but for its ever-changing nature.

Perhaps that is why opal feels so deeply personal.

Its colours are never fixed. They evolve with the light, revealing something different each time they are worn.

Like the stories we carry, they are always unfolding.

Crafted Around a Singular Stone

Every Indigo ring is handcrafted to order in our Sydney workshop.

Once an opal has been chosen, the ring is individually created around that exact stone in your chosen gold and ring size. Every setting is made to honour the character of the gemstone it holds.

From the sculptural proportions to our signature under-rail construction, each detail has been carefully considered to protect and celebrate the individuality of the opal.

Only twelve Australian Grawin opals were selected for this inaugural release. Each has been precision cut into our proprietary Tri-Cut shape. Each possessing its own character.

Once an Indigo Opal has found its owner, it cannot be recreated. There will never be another exactly like it.

One stone.

One story.

Choose your Indigo.
