Creating History At UbyKate

Centuries-old diamond artistry, expressed through the lens of the signature Tri-Cut.
The Rose Cut and the Portrait Cut are century-old diamond artistry, two of the most distint cuts in diamond history. We've taken two of the most distinctive cuts in diamond history, and reimagined them through our most signature silhoutte, the Tri-Cut.
The idea was never to recreate the past. It was to honour it then transform it into something the world has never seen before.
The Rose Cut
Dating back to the 16th century the rose cut diamond became synonymous with Georgian opulence and Victorian romance.
It was created for a very different world from the one we know today.
Before electric lighting, diamonds were designed to come alive under candlelight. Rather than the intense sparkle we associate with modern brilliant cuts, rose cuts have a softly domed, faceted surface that creates a subtle play of light and shadow.
The don't just sparkle, they glow.
The surface is gently domed and hand-faceted, and the point rises towards the surface of the stone.
The Portrait Cut
The Portrait Cut takes us even further back.
Originating centuries ago in the Mughal Empire and later worn throughout European aristocracy, Portrait Cut diamonds were traditionally crafted as exceptionally thin, transparent stones.
They were often used to protect miniature portraits and treasured keepsakes, allowing the image beneath to remain visible through the diamond.
What makes the Portrait Cut so captivating is its almost glass-like quality. It's a diamond cut focused on transparency rather than maximum brilliance.
We've taken that concept even further and suspended the Portrait Cut diamond above a tri-cut Australian Blue Sapphire.
The two stones sit together in an unexpected sculptural composition, creating the illusion that the Portrait diamond is floating above the sapphire beneath it. As light moves through the transparent upper stone and across the sapphire below, the layers reveal themselves from different angles.
Looking back to create something new
These new diamond cuts were never about recreating vintage diamonds, it was about understanding why these cuts have endured, then asking what could they become today.
The Tri-Cut Rose carries the softness and intimacy of candlelight.
The Tri-Cut Portrait captures the quiet beauty of transparency.
And both carry the unmistakable geometry of the Tri-Cut.
These are diamonds for those who are drawn to the unusual, to pieces with a story, a sense of history and something you don't see everywhere else.
The Tri-Cut Rose Cut Diamond and Tri-Cut Portrait Cut Diamond are available exclusively through UbyKate. You won't see this cut anywhere else.
Because some diamonds follow history.
