Rethinking The Way We Wear Jewellery
What happens when a gemstone becomes part of the experience, rather than simply the centrepiece?
The A-Maze-Ring explores this idea through movement, geometry and a little unexpected playfulness. Featuring a gemstone that travels through a miniature maze as the ring is tilted, it brings an entirely different dimension to the way we interact with jewellery.
Inspired by the Games We Grew Up With
The inspiration comes from the little maze games many of us grew up with. The ones where you would tilt a toy from side to side, carefully guiding a tiny ball through winding pathways.
Rather than simply recreating the shape of a maze, the challenge was to bring the movement itself into the design. What if the gemstone wasn't fixed in place, but could travel through the pathways of the ring?
The result is a design that reveals a different side of jewellery. At first glance, the A-Maze-Ring has a distinctive geometric form. In motion, it becomes something else entirely. The gemstone moves through the maze, inviting the wearer to turn their hand, follow its path and interact with the piece in a way that feels both unexpected and familiar.
The movement of the gemstone is central to the experience, making the structure of the ring just as important as the stone itself. It is this relationship between form and function that gives the A-Maze-Ring its character.
A Maze of Our Own
Like everything we do, there's always a story behind the pieces we create. To capture the essence of the A-Maze-Ring, our team travelled four hours into regional New South Wales to photograph the ring inside a real hedge maze.
With its winding paths and intersecting lines, the setting echoed the geometry of the design while bringing its original inspiration to life. It was a chance to take the concept beyond the jewellery itself and create a setting that felt just as considered as the piece.
Who Said We Had to Grow Up?
Perhaps part of the appeal of the A-Maze-Ring is its connection to something familiar. The simple pleasure of a childhood game, the curiosity to work your way through a challenge and the satisfaction of finally finding your way.
It celebrates the freedom to think differently and the joy of creating something simply because it makes people smile. A playful new chapter in our design story, the A-Maze-Ring brings together childhood nostalgia and contemporary jewellery in a piece made to be worn, explored and enjoyed.
