How Our Embrace-let Is Made: Behind the Scenes in the UbyKate Workshop

We’ve had so many orders for our Embrace-let lately that we thought it would be fun to take you behind the scenes and show you how each one is made. 

While the design is beautifully simple, there’s a lot of work that goes into creating every Embrace-let by hand. 

It all starts when your order comes through. 

First, we select the right metal and size for your piece, whether that's Sterling Silver or 9ct Gold. We then cut the metal to the correct length and begin shaping. 

One end is hammered flat, while the other is carefully filed into a smooth rounded shape. From there, the metal is heated to make it easier to bend and work with. 

Next comes the signature hook. The rounded end is slowly shaped and curved by hand until it forms the perfect hook. The flat end is then bent and adjusted so it should fit neatly and securely into place

The bracelet is then shaped around a sizing form. We check everything lines up properly, checking the opening hooks and unhooks seamlessly, trimming away any excess metal and continuing to refine the shape until it’s just right. 

Once we're happy with the shape, it's time for hallmarks. Each Embrace-let is carefully positioned in our laser engraving machine, where we add both the UbyKate hallmark and the corresponding metal stamp. Whether it's a Sterling Silver piece marked "925" or a gold Embrace-let carrying its appropriate hallmark, these tiny markings are a lasting signature of the materials and craftsmanship behind your piece.

Then comes a lot of filing, smoothing and sanding. Every edge is softened and every surface is carefully prepared for polishing. The polishing process happens in several stages. We start by smoothing the metal, gradually working towards a brighter and brighter finish until the Embrace-let begins to shine. 

For the final clean, the bracelet is placed into our ultrasonic cleaner. This helps to remove any remaining polishing residue and leaves the piece sparkling. 

After a rinse with water and a quick dry (can’t forget to dry our own hair at the same time), it’s finished 

From a straight piece of metal to a finished Embrace-let, every bracelet is crafted by hand in our workshop and made especially for U.
